Guess whose birthday is it today?! :D

It has been three years since Tomato come to live with me.
I am sure I told this story many-a-times. Tomato came to me three years ago when my house was flooded from the bitter winter. I was forced out of my house to live in a hotel. It was BORING and stressful to have nothing you like to do to do, but lots of dealing with insurance agencies. Her arrival sorta gave me a welcomed distraction from all the stress I was having at the time. Hence, she is the special girl!

Her appearance has changed many times since her initial arrival.

As have a lot of things in my life.

The one constant thing is that Tomato is super adorable and is still the favourite in this household!!! :>:>

Journey to the West Series

I haven't been writing many blog posts, especially not with new releases, however, I feel that I should with this release from Popo doll.
Mostly because I am a huge fan of Journey to the West as a book. As a child, this is my most favourite novel. Action, adventure, fancy Buddhist stuff, monkey, difficult words! Everything a child want in their books.

It is a story about a Monk who has to go to the West (Tibet-area) to bring back some Buddhist books to enlight the people living in the east. The road is long and dangerous, so in his journey, he "acquired" three students. Wukong, the Monkey King who fight off monsters; Zhu Bajie, the ugly Pig monster who carry the luggage; and Sha WuJing, a blue face monk who is responsible for taking care of the horse... which is a dragon horse really.

Anyway!

Zhu Bajie. Not ugly at all, wtf. XD

Sha Wujing.

Monkey King, with some sort of honey bee bra.

XuanZang the monk. SHE HAS A NIPPLE COVER.

So they are all ladies. Seksi ladies. Which is okay. I rather like the general look of Wukong and XuanZang. They sorta... fit what I have in mind... ish. The essential elements are all there. The headdress of Wukong and the staff of XuanZang.

The other two.... are sorta... interesting in their own ways. I'd like give Wujing a super blue faceup and... not sure what to do with Zhu Bajie. You can't make an ugly doll... so maybe that's what they went for, super pretty with a pig headdress. XDXD

I don't know.
All and all I am still happy with more Chinese folk stories themes. I definitely will look forward to more of these. :>

Minerva Minerva

When I first decided I need a Minerva I decided she should have curly brown hair.
Though the first Mint didn't quite rock that hair.

Well it isn't like she doesn't look good. She is a very pretty girl and she looked good in many wigs.

But I always thought she look better with the straight brown wig... which was a mistake sent to me. XD

And the bob cut doesn't quite work on her either.

Again, not bad. Just... the straight one looks best.

But because I thought the bob wig looked MEH I never bothered to try it on Minerva.

TBH, originally what I planned for Minerva as a character is a pretty girl, so old Mint fits better in that sense. .... but I love Minerva. She is inventing a whole new layer of Minerva that I need to invent.

I guess that's good.

Making of Sayo Part 2

This is going to be a lame progress. Cuz somewhere along the way I was too absorbed into the work and forgot to take inbetween pics.

So the first match was not perfect. I was experimenting with the idea that perhaps instead of starting over, I'll just seal it with a lot of MSC and lightening the tone up a bit. Since the original colour match layer will need the full sealing anyway.

It really didn't quite lightening it up as much as I would like. So in between layers, I blushed layers of white pastel to try to help it further along. It sorta worked. The colour is lighter but I think the undertone might still be a bit on the pink side.

Well. I decided let's go ahead with it! So... fast forward to her being done!

Making of Sayo, part I

Sayo is one of my least photographed doll. She help me realize that I simply don't do well with floating heads.

So to fix that problem, I bought a TG body when Soom had an event to sell them separately.

... in normal skin.

Haha. Reason being Sayo has always been a much creamier shade than say, Hime. I am not particularly fond of that shade, plus I am quite certain the new WS body would not have matched.

I was stalking tracking today for the body since I know it would be out for delivery. I saw they left a card for pickup since no one was home. They never showed whether or not the parcel made it back to the post office. Since I pass by the post office on my way home anyway, I decided to try my luck. Sure enough, I saw a Soom box in the backroom. The clerk told me there is nothing under my name but he is willing to go through the many parcels they received. I told him if he'd be so kind to check the Soom box on top of the pile it is most likely to be mine.

Mwahahaz.

So the match! .. ooh, what horrible match. I know there will be a lot of work.
And I seem to never document any progress, let's start with this.

... er I don't have any in between pictures of the mess I made. I started off with a very light pink which I used to colour match a narin to a souldoll. Added pink, added red, added orange, and lots of opague base.

The challenge is always this: I tried the colour on the headcap and it often looks nice enough.
Until you start to spray the peaks and valleys on the face.

Some areas tend to get sprayed more than others. So while some parts of the face was perfectly matched (close to the back of the head with a lighter spray) this looks a bit darker than the body.

I am not sure if I will redo yet. I will probably wait till I have daylight to have a look and see how bad this is.

Next up, redo? Or a faceup?

Launching photostories

I have not done many photostories myself.
Mainly because I never knew what to do a story about. XD I am uninspired and boring like that.

I have long been an admirer of Carmen's photos. We have completely different dolls, she has big moody guys who are very suited to creepy photos. I have colourful little ones which ... with a lot of work might fit in a dark photo. XD

It was a great delight to start talking to her and exchange story and character ideas, concepts and what not. So with great pleasure I introduce to your our collaboration photostory project: Far Across the Words.
It is a penpal story between my crew and hers. It has been great pleasure and excellent inspiration to my otherwise melted brain.

I have great hopes of continuing this project and have a lot of fun in the process. Please have a look and feel free to leave any comments/suggestions! :>

One of my pathetic reason is that it is just a piece of crap in terms of weather here so when I get light or get outside to take picture I want them to be super nice and constantly taking the 'stache on and off do a number to my cold frozen fingers. XD

I've always felt that Chinese companies don't explore the rich repertoire of Chinese mythology and legends enough to make interesting dolls. While I understand that it would be hard to market stories that is unfamiliar to people, but I've also realized that people will buy whatever if you can sell it to them. :>

I am rather please with Angell Studio trying to tap into the rich and colour Chinese stories.
Their release of the snake ladies are quite promising.

I rather like Qinglin myself. Her face is quite pretty whereas Zhen is sorta... meh. She is so standard good nature looking. What is interesting I think is that I've always imagined the White Snake Lady is older and more mature looking and Green Snake is younger and more naive. AS took a different approach I suppose and they look the opposite.
There is also the alternate version of the same dolls...

IT IS DONE TO DEATH. I think people are attached to it because it is easy to do Alice. Get a pretty girl give her a blue dress, some sort of bunny, or bunny ears and cat or cat ears. YA! Alice. BOO.

Let's move on! There are so many other stories that would make interesting dolls! How about Red Riding Hood? And other fairy tales?
Anyway. I am looking forward very much to see what Pipos do with the Wizard of Oz theme. :D It would most certainly be pretty, but how pretty? Is the question.

A fantasy faceup!? Never!

I've actually always admire and adore fantasy type faceups by other artist. Wonderful ideas and designs, vivid colours that are bold and daring.
I have no idea how to do it.
I've always wanted to try but sadly with no one in my groupie for one.
Well.

Enter Chi.
Throughout the time I own him I've changed my mind many times about how he should look; I finally settled on that he is indeed a fantasy creature and with two heads, I should be able to play with some sort of fantasy theme with him on at least one head.

Chi is actually properly name QianDeng (which means a thousand lamps). He is unaware of it though.
Chi is only one fragment of the true QianDeng, who was shattered into pieces sometime in the past during some events. Chi has no memories of who he is other than passing images. He is quite confused and without his memories, he islike a mere child learning about the world again.

Which is why I think it is important to seperate the two faceups to depict the different personality between the two of them. Chi's faceup shares the same colour them as QianDeng, with light colour theme which suggests a hint of fire and QianDeng would have a full burning flame... which is the idea of this faceup.

To be honest I really don't have a clear idea of how to translate my vaguely blurry idea into a faceup. I know I want some sort of flame suggestion, and Chinese theme. The orange colour and the pattern of it is drawn from Chinese opera face painting, with the lone exaggerated eyeliners. The orange actually wasn't applied on the face as nice as I'd like. So I just went on the fly and draw on random stuff. I am afraid I might not be able to recreate those swirly should I have to redo this face. Soo.... even though I am not 100% sure of satisfied with it this will have to stay for now until I figure out otherwise.

He definitely need a different wig. :>

One more for good measure.

It is my fault of course, for rushing into the mod without much thought and then having to try to reconstruct her face and having little time to do it.

And rant it is going to be! Probably not diplomatic about it, either.

First up I'd like to rant about Doll Chateau's Siamese twins.

While I applaud their effort on taking on a very different concept and something certainly rather unique, I really do not like their approach.

Why face to face? I guess for technical purposes so they just need to make one new piece and use existing body rather sculpt something else? Well but if they did a hip piece that allow them to joint side by side that would also only be one piece as well. My biggest problem is this: in the photo they were locked in some sort of embrace and eerily awkward glances at each other... which give me a VERY strong incestuous vibe. Oh it is possible my mind is in the gutter but in fact none of their styled pictures show them wearing any pants/skirts. There were photos showing off the body, there was no need to have them nude in those styled pictures. In fact, wouldn't it be better to show off what they can wear and/or what they look like when wearing clothings? This leads me to believe they did a sexualized image of this on purpose, and I am extremely uncomfortable about it.

Mind you, it is not that they have sculpted a doll with a physical... hm, lack of a better word, normality that bothered me. The fact the photos are portrayed in the way they are is what really really bugged me. Sorta like Dollmore when they released the Lusion doll.. .. the fact she is big and baby faced with more grown up proportions did not bother me as much as how they did the photos.

Which brings me to my next rant.

WHAT IS UP WITH LEEKEWORLD?!

Lately all of the dolls they have released have been with 3 years old faces, small shoulders with decent size boobage and huge hips. Some of those things don't go together and shouldn't go together. All with pastel colours and with too much attention to details of body blushing. What's going on? No idea, just creeped out by it and very glad that I don't deal with them anymore.

Surely. On both cases you can argue about that it is some new art concept and they are only trying to make art. Sure. If it was done and display in a museum to invite our thoughts on our concepts about sexuality and/or physical differences, sure. This is however, a product that you can buy to do whatever you please. Maybe I am being cynical here but I honestly think there are some sick minds out there doing sick things to them. I am not sure I am comfortable with promoting that sorta thing.

I am sorry once again if I offend anyone. I just do not like this and feel rather strongly about it. I appreciate if if you see this differently and my mind is just not in the right place, alas! This is how I feel on the matter.

Well I spent some time making one and spent even more time answering it.

Picky/Adventurous?
M: I wouldn’t say I am very adventurous. I was told that I’ll be missing out a lot if I don’t at least give things a try. So I’ll at least give everything a cautious taste, so long I am not required to love them all.
V: I am only picky about certain things: especially for things I like and am quite knowledgeable about.

Your favourite herb/spice:
M: I rather enjoy the taste of sage.... I think? They are the fuzzy ones right? I am afraid some of the subtleties of taste difference between other herbs is lost to me.
V: I can’t say I have a favourite though I can say I am not a huge fan of anise.

How do you like your eggs done?
M: Over-medium would be perfect. I suppose I wouldn’t oppose to omelettes, either.
V: In eggs Benedict. Simply poached would also be acceptable.

Your typical breakfast:
M: A fresh cup of tea. Sausages and pancake. And some fresh fruits to go with it.
V: Eggs Benedict.

Tea/Coffee? How do you like them?
M: Tea. With sugar. Cream is optional.
V: I have no preference between the two. I like cream and sugar in my coffee but only lemon in my tea.

Your favourite dessert?
M: Ice cream. It is simply the most wonderful thing.
V: Cheese. I also enjoy most kinds of pastries.

Do you eat your favourite thing in the dish first? Or last? Alternate?
M: First... trying to change that habit though.
V: Mostly last. I think... I don’t pay enough attention.

M: Soup. The hearty kind with lots of things in it. Or chowder.
V: Something with melty bubbly cheese. Possibly baked.

M: I really don’t think we should be discussing this?
V: They really don’t taste that great anyway. … what? I’ve had a sip here and there. I hear they are supposed to go well with cheese but I’d say it is an acquired taste.

M: Canivore. Definitely.
V: Don’t really have a preference. Guess I am an omnivore?

M:Steak of any kind is always good. Medium is good.
V: Lamb. Done any way.

M: I am not very picky about it. I rather enjoy cucumber sandwiches so I must also enjoy cucumbers?
V: Grapes. They are excellent with cheese. Pear is a close second.

M: I don’t suppose I can become a vegetarian since it would be hard for me to give up meat.
V: Cheese.

M: Hmm. Not much of a snacker myself. Dried fruits and nuts is a pretty good snack though.

M: Oh no.
V: … It doesn’t smell that great.

M: I like a bit of light in my room. So I usually leave the thick layer open and the thin layer closed.
V: Mostly open. I like to see what’s going on outside.

M: I like to leave a small night light on.
V: In the dark. Light makes it hard for me to relax.

Do you shower often?
M: I have a feeling any answer other than “yes” is not going to end well? So “yes”.
V: Often enough.

M: Shower before bed help me relax. So... night most of the time.
V: Whenever I like.

M: … er... sometimes...
V: Sing? No. Humming, maybe.

M: When the weather is nice I enjoy being outside.
V: By homebody I assume you mean staying indoor a lot? Well I suppose I’d be more of a homebody then.

M: The library. It is nice and open with excellent natural light for reading.
V: My music room. I feel that it is more my private space than even my room.

M: I might want to make sure everyone has got out of the house. Oh you mean belongings? Hm, my lucky sovereign I’d hate to lose.
V: My violin. Took me a while to find one that is perfect in every way, not going to lose it.

M: I don’t have a library, but father has an impressive library. I do tend to take advantage of it.
V: No. I do have a small music sheets collection.

Do you have a collection of anything?
M: No. Not really.
V: I have a small collection of violins which I use. I also like to collect music sheets.

Do you snore while you’re sleeping?
M: Not that I am aware of.
V: I hope not, and I don’t suppose anyone would be around to notice even if I do.

M: We used to want a pet dog in the house, but since we got our animal familiars it seems like that is all we needed. I have a timid cat.
V: And I have an overactive bird. I don’t think I feel a need for pets anymore.

What mode of transport do you prefer?
M:Trains.
V: Out of all the ones I have tried airship is definitely the best thing.

Long distance:
M: Trains. There is something great about being on a train that keeps on moving, and yet has the comfort of a home.
V: Airship. If only I can airship everywhere.

Short distance:
M: I rather enjoy walking. For a bit long distance I also find bicycles quick and reliable.
V: I used to like horses, but then I found out about bicycles I find them way nicer since they don’t need fussing or feeding.

What are the three things you cannot leave behind when travelling?
M: A nice book is actually all I need. I used to also carry a sketch pad, I seldom do that now. Oh I suppose enough change of clothes would be rather essential as well.
V: My violin and some music.

Light traveler?
M: Very much so.
V: Decently light, I’d say.

Do you have trouble sleeping in a strange bed/house?
M: No. I have no trouble falling asleep anywhere.
V: Sometimes. If I am tired enough then I am not bothered.

What is your favorite destination?
M: I have not really travelled that much so there isn’t a favourite yet. It is fascinating just about everywhere. Some place with mountains is always nice.
V: I like cities more so than country sides. I enjoy bustling places with lots going on.

M: Er. If you must know…. boxers.

M: I am assuming after underwear? I like to put my shirt on first.
V: Socks. My feet tends to get cold.

M: Maybe ties? I always like to look smart and a tie seem to be that little something.
V: Hm. Not sure there is anything that is a must.

Fussy about pressing?
M: Yes. Well taken care clothes tend to last.
V: Only with formal clothes. Regular clothes are fine without ironing.

M: Comfortable and fashionable. If I must choose.
V: Comfortable and functional. I don’t feel the need to impress.

What is your opinion on socks?
M: They keep my feet warm.
V: Essential.

M: Shoes. I feel better knowing that my feet are not unprotected against whatever might be on the ground. Especially my poor little toes.
V: I like barefoot in the warmer times. Once the floor gets cold there must be socks.

M: Green. More subdue shades of greens..
V: Hm. I like warm colours.

M: Utility kilt? I’ve heard good things about them being... erm, breezy. Can’t say I have tried it though.

M: I like hats of any kinds really.
V: I don’t have an opinion on them. They have their use I suppose.

Do your prefer your hair to be au natural? Or styled?
M: Mostly natural. Sometimes I do have to style it a bit to change things up a bit.

M: Not really.
V: Just a light one when I remember.

A hobocat's got to travel!

So I have been sick again. Apparently I am just lame and weak to cold virus.
Most likely it is just a combination of lack of sleep and virus attack of some sort.... anyway I figured some fresh air will do me some good so I organized a last minute walk. I read on the paper that Light House Park in West Vancouver is a lovely sight in the fall and the trails look short and easy, so I figured, well, why not.

The main trail is paved and straight, minimal elevation, very lovely.
After we went to the bathroom (which looked like a school bathroom), we somehow made a wrong turn and never reached the Light House.

What is not to like? Great view of the city from here. Ocean breeze (which is a little chilly) and big stumps hanging mid air to sit on.

It was a long time until a nice gentleman gave us the right direction to the light house. Turns out when we stop by the bathroom if we had just walk another minute or so we would have been there.

There were many shells on the rocks. I was told once that birds pick up the shells and break them on the rocks so they can eat the content. Hobocat studies these bits carefully.

The trails ended up being harder than I had intended. The smaller trails are full of rocks and roots and that made even the subtle elevations hard to take. We also did a lot of climbing from rocks to the next rock to get the best view. It was excellent. It reminds me why I would choose to live in this city when it isn't raining. :>

Miu Miu Miu

Miu was a total and complete impulse buy.
When she was first released as the event item Juri head, people didn't react kindly to it (just like the reaction of the new Juri 2011). Many find her face limiting, many finds her ugly, some find her a disappointment to the OH HAIL MIGHTY JURI'08. It is true Juri'08 is a gorgeous sculpt. Gentle smile with a pleasant eye shape and elf ears, it is a lot of good elements to make a gorgeous doll.

On the flip side though because Juri'08 has such a gentle expression, a lot of the existing Juri'08s out there tends to be beautiful gentle girls. There aren't a lot of varieties out there... I mean, why mess with a good smile?

Here is where I think Juri'10 shines. Because of her expression people tend to try to come up with good ideas to make her look different.

I have seen a few more but I won't link them here. The idea I am trying to get through is that sometimes the oddity of the sculpt force people to do different things about the doll... and then interesting results come up. ... which is kinda a good thing!
In the end Juri'10 was only restricting if you wanted it to be, and Juri'08 ended up being more restricting of idea because people liked the face too much to do something else. It is all how you see this.

I didn't do anything too creative with my Miu, I have to say. She didn't have fantasy faceup or anything. I was trying to work on her in the way that she can also be a cute, normal girl.

I am sure she can also be a frlly frilly girl, but to me, she look more like a spunky girl with some sort of attitude. I dressed up her like my artsy co-worker who always wear interesting clothes to work with her asymmetrical haircut. For some reason I think that would be the way Miu should dress. XD

Need a flower on her head, and her look would be complete.

I like my Miu. And I like the sculpt even though it was drown in all sorts of negative comments.
This is how I feel about the brand new Juri'2011 sculpt as well. I think interesting can be done with it. A very happy person, or a very happy psychotic person both seem to work for me. If you want a generic pretty face this certainly isn't it, but let your imagination run wild and I think something cool might be at the end there. :D

Misere doesn't show off a whole lot of his body, not when he was young and most certainly not when he is grown up. He is rather modest about himself, ... I forget sometimes that IDealians have a gorgeous body.

He has been wearing the suit with the black shirt for quite a while. I am not sure when it happened but he is now stained all over his upper body.
As I tried to clean him with a dry magic eraser with no success whatsoever so I decided I'd risk it with some water. .-. The body blushing comes off with each gentle wipe... I was devastated. I know it is going to chip off! Several places on his body have already started to chip. I really really like his body blushing though so I was hoping I can get some more mileage out of it.

Moral of story: if you care about what is under the body, vinegar your black shirts. Normally it wouldn't have mattered ... just the body blushing ....so nice.

edit: dangit I wanted to actually post something that isn't about whining about the stain.

I like the new Feeple girl quite a bit. She looks sorta like a very stylized IH Asa to me. Why is she just so damn sweet and cute though? If she look a bit more mature... and without elf ears. XD

Bisbane in real skin would also be a nice girl. I love IH's manry faces and they make confident, bossy looking women. I really like her. She looks kinda playful.

Shiva is still my first choice for faces. She has such an expressive face with lots of personality. ... it's just her size I am not sure of. I think so far EID and Feeple65 girls have the right size and proportion to the ID boys. Some of the other girls have height but lack girth. They look ridiculously skinny when standing by an ID boy. The Feeple girl is short but has enough girth to look normal.

.-. or maybe this girl just need to dress in floofy clothes? .-.

Thoughts about the recent Fairyland quality issue

If you have DoA access, this is the thread discussing some quality issues with recent Fairyland dolls, especially Minifees.

I ordered Miu's body early June and so her body would have been in the batch where problem was happening. I paid some special attention to inspect her when I received her body. I did not look through a magnifying glass nor did I put her under bright lights for carefully surveying. She looks good. Her joints are all very stiff and creak when I move her. She is also strung rather tight so her chest joint doesn't stay back if I pop it. All fixable issue and will fix themselves likely with some playing.

What I do want to address is a few points that's been raised here and there by people who argued about this issue.
On the people who were unhappy with Fairyland:

1. It is true that we pay money and wait a long time for these dolls. We want it to be perfect and this isn't perfect.

I do understand this. From the pictures however I do have trouble seeing the extend of the scratches and marks. Many of the owners said you need to put them out in bright sunlight to see these marks, cameras do not capture them. This is where I wonder at what point are these marks becomes a problem? Personally I'd have an issue is the surface is so uneven it would catch on clothes or that it shows up very visibly in photos. I'd raise an issue about it.

2. Fairyland won't do anything about it and said it's acceptable.

Customers are always right. But see, they aren't. Looking at this a very practical way. I would not want to send the doll, or any parts back if I can fix it. It is just going to take forever for me to ship the doll, and they make me replacements. I can fix the marks with a slight sanding, ... or throw some clothes on and forget about them. Yepp, it is a matter of principle, for sure. I consider my time rather valuable and this not be worth the hassle. Again, if it is missing a limb, have the wrong parts, is the wrong doll, things are broken, that is a different story.

In a way though, doll owners complain about doll companies all the time but when the time comes they are all very eager to hand over their wallet for whatever companies that make qualities that apparently do not match up to their standard. I'd say if you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't complain how much money you have spent on it but keep paying to get more anyway. The only sure way to deal with businesses you don't like is do not pay them money. >.>

On the otherhand:

1. You should be grateful that Fairyland make dolls for you.

No. That isn't true either. We pay them money, they make dolls for us. I don't have to feel grateful. This is a business transaction and gratefulness should not be involve in it. I understand a little bit what the other side is complaining: people keep saying things like Fairyland can do no wrong. Well in the end this is a business, I pay for my goods and my goods should arrive to me. I shouldn't have to be crying in tears of joy because they delivered the goods I paid for. If there is a problem, a real problem, they are still responsible.

I am not trying to make arguments here really but rather point out what people have been saying and what my thoughts are about it.
Dolls start to wear quickly once you start playing with them, scratches are going to happen regardless. Everyone should just take a chill pill and play with their toys instead.

Airs, owner of Kestrel here, has some misgiving about him.
She said perhaps Chalco is too sweet a sculpt and he looks too sweet and nice for the character she wants. ... he needs to be more arrogant, for a start.

To prove her wrong, I took these two pictures to remind her Kestrel is pretty full of himself.

I think it is rather interesting because I think the "sweet" and "boyish" impression of Kestrel probably come from standing beside Misere a lot.
Take this picture for example:

He looks small and boyish and young. ... I think because of the lack of a coat too. When you only wear your suit vest you tend to look more naive? (prime example: Naruhoutou vs Odoroki from Gyakutensaiban aka Ace Attorney)

That is what I really like about the dolly hobby.
Change some wigs and eyes, change the way they dress. BAM, completely different dolly.

The key is play.
PLAY
and PLAY A LOT.
They have so much personality just waiting for you to find them. :> I love this hobby.

Long exposure is probably one of my favourite things to do with camera.

The light source was a small keychain light that changes the whole spectrum of colour when you turn it on. From red all the way to purple. As a result, he looks sorta 3Dish with all the different lights on him.

I tried a few things and during that time Misere faceplanted. I really need to fix his knees.

The laser pointer one is way cooler. This one is done with the laser pointer rapidly moving.

This one was done with a slower laser pointer movement.

The difference is that you need the laser pointer on the whole time really to have enough light. If you move fast you have to keep moving and hence a lot more lines in the first one. I think if I really slow it down I can probably make a prettier more controlled photo.

But that is for next time! :D

Miracle two shot!

One of my most recent exciting projects is trying to do some collaboration photos with my friend Carmen.
She is extremely talented and I've always been a HUGE (and I do mean HUGE) fangirl of her photos. I know for a fact that she is good at photo manipulation so I suggested an idea that we (by we I do mean her) can photoshop our dollies together for some fun things!

I took a very quick photo of Tomato ... who looked a bit awkward and rushed and sent it over.
And....

Tomato apparently snuck out to Ottawa and met Carmen's Martin (TF Sarang boy) for the first time!!!

This is only really a test run to see what kinda kinks we'll have to work out. I am very excited nevertheless to see all sorts of miracle shots that will come out from it! :>

By my house there is a community vegetable garden. I've always thought it could be the backdrop of Tomato's vegetable garden also.

The larger tomatoes aren't all ripe yet.
For scale purposes I probably should have used smaller ones. But the smaller tomatoes grow on a much higher bush.

Tomato has a green thumb. She loves plants of all kinds and growing things is one of her specialty. She takes pride in able to grow something that anyone can enjoy.

She pours her heart into it and work harder than anyone for her garden.

This shoot turned out really really nice.
The editing is minimal. I had to recrop a few pictures because I simple was not able to get close enough or far enough since the space between the garden lots were very limited.

Airs' Kestrel is the floppiest thing, ever. If I pick him up by the waist he'd just flop back at the hip joint with the joint popping out. >.> So posing them together was very challenging.

I have been quite busy with everything (ya, I do seem to say that a lot now) that I didn't update as much as I like. Granted, there hasn't been super pictures I have to share.

Anyway! Took a break from staying home inhaling pastel dust to soaking up some solar ray outside. Was very glad I decided to go because I am starting to realize summer won't be here much longer! I need to embrace it before it is gone!

ID Misere and Lamina went with me this time. I often think, well it can't be that bad taking ID Misere out. How wrong I was. My back is in PAIN. ... well partly of a lot of squatting and half bending forward to get the best height for photos. (which is why that doll acrylic platform is a god-send)

One thing I have to get use to having a larger doll is that they look easier to be in scale with their background. None of my minis can walk in grass like they are grass. They are always tall, dense monstrous grass to them.

Ever since Lamina has his new faceup, I think I have really played with him a lot more. I guess that is why faceup makes the doll!

Not to mention they do fit everywhere.

I've been asked how to pronounce Misere and Vivere's names. One of my friends used to pronounced them kinda... Frenchly. Like [mi'sɛʁ]... the names are Latin-based and navci dialected. XD Misere was a character from a book I randomly read in the library a LONG time ago.
It's been a while since I have to transcribe anything so I hope they are correct-ish.

Sealant, the bane of my existance

I have been very swarmed by both day work and faceup work lately.
... I am actually a fairly fast worker for faceups. Usually I can finish quite a few faces in one sitting of a Saturday (which is usually around 6-8 hours' work). So naturally that is never stressful for me to keep up with deadlines of 4 weeks.

This past month though, has been most troublesome. Every faceup I have done is a 3rd redo of some sort because I have some very patchy sealant drying. It ranged from that the sealant just rubbed off from my hard brushes blushing, and more commonly it dried odd and the pastel colours ended up looking grainy as shit.

It is incredibly frustrating because you can do your best work ever for hours and it'd be ruined in seconds. The common cause of the problem is either you are on the last bit of your can, which is not the case here; cold, not the case here; and maybe humidity. ... which is possible since it has been hovering around 60-70% ish lately. What do I do though? I can't make it drier, I wish I could! ....*sigh* I like doing faceups a lot, it is really fun for me but times like this make me think GODAMMIT I'LL NEVER DO FACEUPS ANYMORE! D:

Sorry. I suppose this really is just a rant more than anything else. I think ever since seeing Chien's faceup in person I really want to put out better work and this isn't helping. ._.

Beach, Woods and Train tracks

There is a very beautiful park locally that is easily my favourite.

Why?

There is a beach, a walk by the ocean if you are not into beach.

There is woodsy area if you are not into ocean with lights coming through the trees.

There is also a train track if you don't like any of those!

A servicing train track so if you hear the hoot and the ringing at the crossing, RUN.

We went there the first time at the dead of winter, it was cold, but still gorgeous.

Tomato has changed a lot! If the old photo of her is Tomato ver 1 she must be on ver 7 now. I love love love her. She is my favourite of all times even if she isn't one of the easiest doll to change, and require tons of maintenance and has hair that is too long... <3 <3

Vivere should release his very own album with him staring soulfully out to the ocean holding his violin. >.> I wish his hands were more useful in holding things so I wouldn't be afraid to have him holding the violin by the water without having to worry about losing the violin forever.

Something always is new?

I've decided there are a few sculpts I would prefer not to work with anymore.

When I do faceups I always want to try to bring something different than the last time I painted the same sculpt so everyone's dolls would look a bit different.

However I am finding it more and more challenging as the number of times you pain them. I specialize in natural faceups, but there is really only so many ways you can do a natural boy faceup before they all look the same?

Now, I would still like to paint Glot/Glati if it is a girly girl. Because I can use a completely different colour palette and expressions. But as you can see if I have to try to natural looking boy I am not sure what more variation I can do.

Okay!
Now that I have squealed all over for my new boy, let's talk about some new awesome dolls! :D

Well because this is freshly going on sale today:
Nor and Dune

Mini size birdies!

Their faces are adorable. The eye shape bear some resemblance to Alk/Yrie's eyes but their mouths are open! With teeth! (you can kinda see it) The size of the wings are a nice size and they look nice and balance on them. The only thing I have to complain about is those feet. They are sorta in between the very bird of prey like feet of Galena and the chubby little meatball chicken feet of Alk/Yrie. But they look.... odd. I think they are too small, would probably look nicer if they were bigger, to balance out the wings. The other thing is the very boring earthy tone of the wings and feet.... I never quite understand why they want to go with such subdued colours.

Other than that though, everything about them is rather cute. The outfit I like, wigs for Dune is adorable. They remind me of Delf Lishe actually now that I look at their faces again.

New ID boy - Galway the Fortunate

I love that suit! I know people complained about his eyes because all heavily lidded and weird. I rather like him though! Depending on how the eyes are actually sculpted, I think a different faceup would give him an entirely different look. Love the skin tone too. He'd be an interesting boy to look forward to.

Souldoll - The Lovers - Bliss and Bliarde

Mint green couple! I wonder what colour is the green, if it is going to be like the minty resin colour of my Hobocat? It seems a bit more green but probably not glowing.

As usual the concept is poop, but the presentation is nice. The outfit, headdresses, the bow and everything looks very very nice. I love that bow so much.

The two dolls themselves are kinda underwhelming. Bliss is cute but isn't she a bit baby-faced to be a double girl? Bliarde... could just be the faceup but I find him a rather unattractive sculpt. The previous tarot dolls - Hanged man were definitely done better with more attractive sculpts, personally.

Yesterday Airs came over to play and we took some photos.
Looking back really all I took are group photos, which are not extremely interesting in a sense.... but kinda epic.

For Misere to get his ED eyes.

I planned on getting them even before he arrived. At the time I didn't have the spare money to... he had his Soom ones for the longest time.

By the time I ordered them it was a year later. The first time the order got screwed up and the wrong colour eyes showing up. Bummer.

This time it turned out correctly, but they were stuck at my ex's place for... ever?

Of course they don't show at all when they were in his sleepy eyes. So, well that face is getting wiped so I can do it without eyelashes to block the light.

<3 I am so glad he is finally all done!!! I'd like the purple to be more purple and less pink, but the green is gorgeous, and I think it'd work well for the character so all is well.

The new Teenie Gems are cute.

Ario and Argil - Valar of Nature are little birds. Their wings and tail feathers are so cute! I would love to have them for Hime. .... well, but finding a split is a bit of a pain so whatever. I thought the faces look kinda... Chiwoo like. Slightly more smiley eyed Chiwoo. I like them. They have a similar vibe as Alk/Yrie where the faces are more mature so they look less like super wide eyed children. ... but I really don't need another TG mostly because I've decided Skoll/Hati are the cutest thing and in case they do a special order release I'd like to have room for them.

I am not sure what is happening here. Not impressed. Those antler/ear are way too huge and... :| face ._.

These dolls have a very heavy... artist doll vibe to them. Some of them most certainly remind me of Dust of Dolls' Tank with the curvy leg. I rather like some of the pictures where they were all dressed in ... interesting things. Not sure if I'd want one though.

Like the little Ents, the concept drawings look like it was really going somewhere and were going to be interesting. Instead it is just gonna be another baby face mature body doll. The jewel part doesn't look anything like the drawing. Very disappointing.

You prolly heard it before, I am in love with this manga call "Saint Young Men".

In the story these 4 characters are the Archangels ... Michael, Uriel, Gabriel and Raphael.

I want to have my dolls cosplay them! CUZ THEY ARE ADORABLE.

According to a visit to Sora*Iro, these are 60cm Diana.
The first of 60cm Blue Fairies. Look kinda like May but not quite. Slightly grown up? Hm, not quite either.
Well they are definitely not my cup of tea, I know that much.
But that means there will be larger Blue Fairy dolls! ... which is also okay because I don't really have any use or desire for larger immature looking dolls. If they are large I want them to be very grown up looking.

Man, I don't mind this new boy at all. I thought he is an ID72 boy so I didn't pay him much attention until I saw his selling price. Oho~ he is an ID51.
Quite handsome, I like his eyes quite a bit. He reminds me of Gluino though. Probably because he is blond. I've requested perhaps to see a blank picture of him without the faceup.
But really I don't need another doll unless they come out with one that is like Hyperon and capture my heart at first sight...

This whole weekend has been rainy and poo weather so faceup was out of the question.
Instead, I played with the dolls and the lights.

I did a set of new profile pictures (read: usually overly photoshopped), though this time I did it with one light for more dramatic effect.

There will be more picture of Minerva later. New Mint seems too pouty to have a nickname just yet. XD So she is Minerva for now.

Tomato has two to choose from. I rather like this hopeful expression she has.

For some reason I really liked this picture of Shion.

May Tea Meet

I know, no updates, and updates on a meet.

Doll meets are so much fun. I don't know what I was afraid of this whole time.
Today's meet was at the Urban Tea Merchant in downtown. It was a very nice place, lots of teas to smell. Teapots, accessories, smelly stuff, etc. I'd like to go again with regular non-doll people.

The tea was excellent. I ended up buying a tin of it.
The food was also great. The sweets were lovely, and the savoury sandwiches were also tasty. I was sad to see some people were not able to finish their food. :< It was so good!!!

Afterwards I had to take care of some personal business, and met up with the group again in the Mall.
You know, I would have been so conscious about meeting up in a mall and have my stuff out everywhere. I'd tell you that's a silly idea and you really shouldn't do it.

I actually had a really fun trip with not a whole lot of thoughts of my dolls. Haha.
Tillo and Lamina both were with me but only Tillo got some time out....
Weather was not super... well, it was overcast a lot and threaten to rain and very, very humid. I figure the pukis are safer at home.

Tillo was out with us when we visited the Kowloon WallCity park. It is a very nice park.
Seen here is Tillo posing as a tourist in front of the original pieces of the South entrance of the wall city.

Dollhearts shop was the highlight in terms of doll related things in this visit.

There were so many shoes.
Luckily, I am actually not a huge fan of their shoes. Too many high platform loli type shoes unless you go and get SD size... which I don't own one. I am rather thankful for it though.

The huge selection of frilly dresses though was bad for the heart:

I wanted so many of them but seeing the price in HKD and having recently shopped human shoes and clothes once again made me realize how expensive doll clothes are!! This pink dress costed more than a very nice pair of acupuncture shoes I got.... and I deserve a nice pair of new shoes I figured. XD

I did cave in the end and bought some stuff online to pick up there instead of taking the money out of bro and I's travel pool of money.

I think this is a boy outfit >.> I looked at several dresses but decided in the end this was better. I like the colour and the relatively simple style.

I also visited a couple more doll shops and was very tempted to buy more... good thing I had a budget in mind I guess or I would have spent every last penny on doll things. Saw a Hewitt 3rd for 8800HKD >.>

Just want to make a quick quick comment about Soom's new releases before they become absolute old news. XD

Storm Sprite - macho mini fairy.
The face is a do not want for me. He has that quality that I didn't like in the ID51 London... weird eyes.

Special Order centaurs
They have cute faces!!! I love them lips! The light green skin tone also look quite good.
I have a feeling Soom is just trying out the whole spectrum, while I am loving their spirit, I am slightly concern about getting new hands.... because I really want them to release option hands!!! The very fancy skin tone won't get them easily or getting them to match!

The new Rosette girls are also extremely cute.

I am actually super excited about DollZone's new release of LuDingJi dolls.
It is a novel that I rather like, well and hate growing up. KangXi is perhaps one of my most favourite characters so I am rather looking forward to it.

Well no dolls for now anyway because.....
Gonna save up for an airbrush, finally! Doing a lot of homework right now to see what would be the best thing for me to get for starters. :>

It is way too hot here in Hong Kong.

I had a brief chance in the weekend to visit some of the doll places here. I am super excited, man, there are YoSDs available to buy, even. I wish I am made of money.

I plan to visit the shops again tomorrow as last time when I went I was with my mom... I don't quite want her to know how much things costs. XD

What to do with decent weather and home? More faceupping of course.
My right hand ring finger is so sore from pushing the exacto knife into resin. >.>

I think I will stop doing mods for a while. I was not happy with the mod that came out... luckily faceup makes it harder to see the flaw of the mod. I will fix them up eventually. ... XD

The biggest challenge for Tomato's sleeping face is that it is a sleeping Emilie head, not a sleeping Tommy head (since it doesn't exist). The lovely Xaya was nice to provide me some pictures of Emilie and Tommy comparison before I decided to get a SP Emilie head to make this alternate head for Tomato.

They have different eye shapes, which I hope is easily remedied by having closed eyes; they also have slightly different lips. ... that I hope no one will notice.

The Emilie lips are a bit fuller I think.
The only problem is that it has been a year since I did Tomato's faceup and since then I have changed how I do my brush work quite a bit. So... the dreaming Tomato head has a slightly different faceup style... and a bit of a slightly different expression.

Arrival for a new girl

I haven't been updating this enough lately.
So many new dolls! So many things to do before I leave for my trip. XD

Here is a more remarkable thing to talk about:
New Girl is here! She is replacing my old Mint to be a new Mint.
Funny enough, TF Gus was my first choice for Mint, but... well I thought I'd try something else but ended up coming back to a Gus anyway.

The problem might be this: the Gus I fell for was a OOAK Gus.... who has been modded... so naturally this Gus without modding isn't gonna fit what I had in mind.

You know, I have been in one meet in the past two years and this year just into April I have already went to two meets! Blasphemy!

The local group is quite diverse with different dolls and different people, they are quite fun... so that makes the meet fun as well! :>
There were two meets this weekend, since I had Cavalia on Saturday(which was AMAZING, btw)I was only able to go to the Sunday one.

Saturday turned out to be a gorgeous day, and Sunday, very poopy. :<

I am gonna be painting this girl once I come back from vacation. I can't say I am not excited. Didn't think I was a big fan of the sculpt but she looks quite nice in person. Nice and very heavy.

The great thing about dollmeet is that you have multiple people with dolls so it is not too strange and you feel less weird carrying them around. The garden was actually filled with people and they were everywhere. I would probably not be able to carry them around and put them down for photos without feeling strange. XD
Quite a few people stopped and looked or even take photos of the dolls, and some even asked us questions.

Soom has put out the teaser for their new IDealian, and this time, the 52cm series boys.
I am sure if you have read this blog or have talked to me you'd know how much I was in love with Hyperon, those pretty eyes! That nose! Everything! ... which are starting to arrive, by the way -> someone's got a blank one , gorgeous even blank!!!
Anyway. I still regret not taking the plunge, but realistically speaking I just can't own a boy this big, there is no room .-.

So when I heard about the 52cm boys I thought well, they are still big, but if they come up with something similar I am gonna get it. I will break my rules, and have a big dollie. Having a Misere true to my vision would be... lovely.
Anyway.

The teaser proved to be a bit disappointing to me. Don't get me wrong, he looks good. Those hands are kinda big though? I like Soom's sculpts a lot but I HATE IT when they make those massive lips that looked like they were stung by bees. I can name a few: Vesuvia, Heliot, omg Saiph, etc etc. I don't like them. I like reasonably large lips but those are like... HUGE. And this guy seem to have it as well. Too bad, the eyes are kinda nice.

Oh well. There are more 52cm boys to come, I guess I'll keep waiting. :>

I have a few very neglected dollies.
That doesn't really mean I don't like them, they just .. for some reason don't get a lot of camera time, but definitely play time though!

I love love love this kitty. He looks like he is having so much fun all the time. I am gonna get him more clothes, thanks to PepperoniPizza that Hobocat has some nice clothes to wear. I am gonna get him some overalls next and prolly a hat. :D Cute overload yet?
He had some chips on his left ear but I managed to touch it up this past weekend, it isn't perfect in person but in pictures he look juuuust fine now. :>

Well haters gonna hate and some people are going to keep on the position that this wasn't a big deal and Leeke did not steal anything.

I am going to take one step back here. After reading all of these everyone can form their own conclusion. It is evidence but it isn't legal evidence, so in the end, it is up to the customers to decide which side they want to take.

What I do want to take out of this situation is how Leeke handled this whole incidence.
1. Editing photos in attempt to remove evidences against them.
2. Hey we didn't copy you, you copied these people!
3. We photoshopped these photos! We didn't do shit!

None of these earn any points for them as a company.
Imagine if you placed an order with them, something went wrong with your order. How willing are they to say, hey we didn't do it. You are the problem? Well I have not had dealings with them like that yet, thankfully. However if this is the attitude they take, who can guarantee they won't say that to you?

A lot of people, including myself, was not really willing to boycott Leeke because a lot of us get wigs and shoes from them. They do make nice things. I own a lot of their wigs and shoes... and I still want a lot of wigs and shoes from them. :<
I feel that however that because I am convinced now that this company practice their business in a way I do not find appealing, I have decided I will take all my business elsewhere. It will be more work to find things I like and it won't be as convenient but companies will continue to operate the way they do if customers continue to buy from them. .... Let me cite Custom House as an example? Why are they still around? Because people keep getting sucked into deals and pay them money, then whine about how it takes a year for them to maybe get their dolls. At this point if you keep buying from CH you don't get to whine. Same thing with Charles' Creature Cabinet, or Dollfair.

You are the customers, with the money. You are the only one who change the way the companies operate by not giving them your money.

No one suspected Mikhaila is a recast.

This is what I see the problem is:
The sketch here for the joint system, body shape, etc. Like indicated in the link, it is inspired by the gentle body with a different shape:

Interesting, right? Then. It becomes this:

Where did the reverse hip joint come from? Up until then it has been shown with a regular hip joint. ... there was no reason why the joint should not be regular? That part was never explained. If they had started with gentle body with a different shape, there must be a reason to modify the hip joint? If it goes according to the story, wouldn't it make sense that they had tried a regular hip joint, oh, that doesn't work because of xx, why don't we try this other way. They showed the problem with their extra hip joint that was eliminated... and explained it, the doll can't stand with the hip joint. I find it strange that there simply was no mention of that anywhere.

Am I just imagining this? Are we all just wanted to scream COPY at every opportunity that there is because we are all speshul and want to protect our artist?

Consider this:
Now, in the flickr debate, someone posted an interesting picture (nude dollie alert). This doll was sculpted by Lilycat, with the same idea of pear shape body and the reverse hip joint. But it looks nothing like Pun. What does that say, you can be inspired by a doll by its shape and structure and technical parts even. No one would have said, omg Lilycat copied Pun!!!
But when you have something that is "heavily inspired" to the point it almost look identical to the original, you are asking for doubts and speculation of stealing ideas.

This I can say for sure though, Pun looks like some sort of fairy/sprite and I feel ok looking at even her nude body picture at work. Mikhaila, on the other hand, really struck me more as a fetish looking doll. ._. I don't like it.

The biggest news of the day is of course, Leeke's new Mikhaila with Art body.
Well.
Let's see. Young face with young bust.... and SUPER BUTT.
The doll itself with clothings on look decently cute, with clothes off I am not sure what to think about it. It is a strange proportion and ... just strange, actually. I am always a bit leery of the portrayal of little girl-like figure with some very womanly features.

Now. To complicate the story a bit:

Dust of Dolls is a small French company, they make some very interesting dolls like Tank. The one pictured is a doll called Püns. Now I'll be the first to say that it really isn't my thing, and she look kinda like a cow. (the black spots didn't help) The body shape and joint structure, however, is looking quite familiar no? The body shape actually isn't OOAK unique, there are some dolls and many people's drawings probably similar to it, but why make it so similar if the shape is really what was inspiring? There could be many things done with it to make it a bit different, or maybe more interesting?

There were so many incidences of artists ripping off company designs, company ripping off company, or recast. .. Company ripping off artists, well I guess is due to happen sooner or later.
And apparently not the first time.
Which is too bad really. It isn't like Leeke can't sculpt or do some pretty gorgeous things themselves.... why copy?
Some say it isn't a copy... just heavily inspired.... right.
Some say well if it is not a recast it's okay, since they can't get Pün, it is so unattainable, they will just buy the Leeke one. ... right.

I don't know, I hate for people to jump on the copycat wagon and just scream copy at every new doll released, but I do also dislike these "heavily inspired" dolls. At which point do you cross the line from heavily inspired to copy?
There are lots of noises being made about this, neither companies have issued official statement yet. ... I guess we shall see.

So, after 2 months-ish I finally got my Leeke preorder.

I apparently ordered 4 wigs and one pair of shoes. >.>
I almost forgot.

LR-080 Pure Eve. The colour is very lovely. It is a touch more creamy than Evecream.
I got this in the D size since Vivere has a tiny head, but the proportion is a bit small so it looks a touch shorter. Looks better on Chi. I did intend they can share this wig. Best of the bunch.

LR-020 om Brown Carrot.
I was hoping this will be more auburn like Tomato's other wig, but it is really a lot more brown than carrot. The style is very cute, but the colour is quite a bit darker than I'd like. Well, at least Tomato look good in it. ... Though I've yet to find something that doesn't look good on her.

This isn't a fail wig per se, but it is.
I have this exact same wig in Muddyblond/UniqueGrey for Chi. I liked it a lot, and tried it on Misere's head, finding that it is a good fit before ordering this in D size for him. Well.
It doesn't fit. I tried to stretch it left right and centre but it is just too small. It is frustrating. He swim in an M wig but D wig doesn't always fit.
Anyway. The wig itself is lovely, so Hime will probably take over it.

A very collectable size for me. I see these as more Soul Vito like boys rather than Lut's Junior delf? Shorter muscle men instead of short boys. ... If they make one that has that Hyperon eyes ... I might be very tempted. ._.

I've always liked the Rosette doll faces. They are such cuties, their body is sorta.... 2D like, very lanky and long and have these insanely long legs. ... I don't mind any of those.
Except since I can't sew, finding clothes for them is a PAIN IN THE ASS. So, they sorta got out of the buying radar.

If they are 43cm then it is a different story. I see that they are still way slimmer than a minifee. But you know, I think Rosette dolls look good in frills. Frilly frilly huge puffy dresses with lace and ribbons and flowers.... so slim is ok!!!

Fir... maybe I will eventually have one.
It is true though, with the shorter legs they look.... kinda normal, and less Rosette appeal.

To be honest I am a bit less thrilled than I thought. I mean, he is cute but... he is kinda more Beyla like than Bygg. His faceup is so... gentle and not grumpy. XD
That being said, Bygg/Beyla is my favourite sculpt out of all the Teenie Gems I've seen. Hati/Skoll come as a close second, but Hati/Skoll is actually very ugly blank, but Bygg/Beyla are cute even blank.

And I love teeth. :>

Background story:
The older of the Laguesse boys is actually not related to the Laguesses at all.
Misere was ten years old when he was adopted by the Laguesses after an medium size earthquake collapsed a train station and killed many, including the people who were at the time employing Misere. As far as he remembers he had no family, only a few grown-ups that make him do jobs in order to get food. It took some time for him to adjust to a new life, but he is eternally grateful for this new life and new opportunities it brings. He loves his family, and especially his new little brother who is adorable and talented, and will definitely make it big in the world.

At the age of fourteen, Misere decided to receive corrective surgery for his birth defect, the inability to perceive Nephtic with his eyes.
It is not an uncommon surgery but usually it is performed before the age of 8 to minimize risks. Misere was 12 when he decided to go through with the procedure despite the much higher chance to permanently losing his regular eyesight. He managed to convince his father about it, and kept his mother and brother out of this decision. He spent a year in darkness thinking that his eyesight was probably going to be lost for good; luckily it returned eventually, it turned one of his green eyes into a sickly purple colour with a deformed pupil and his vision no longer resembles anything like normal vision. He can only see shapes and auras in strange colours. Prior to the surgery, Misere was somewhat of a talented painter but now he can no longer paint things that people can understand.

Despite all these, Misere did not regret his decision. He continues to be the mature, responsible son who is caring and loving to his family. He took a special interest of Tomato, a true Soma who is unable to manipulate Nephs in any way.

As the younger of the two boys in the family, Vivere was the happy sweet one. Growing up showered in love, he was optimistic, curious, and eternally cheerful. He has deep respect for his older brother Misere, and like most younger brother that admire their older brother, aspire to be more like him.

Which is probably why when said brother decided to go through a life-threatening surgery for the family, and the fact that his parents had allow their child to go through something like this. He thinks this is so because Misere is not their flesh and blood and they really don't love him like they said they do. He became rather cynical on human relationships.
It changed his outlook on life, family, friends, and the thought of love that he thought was true between the family was not real. He resents his parents for being such hypocrites, and he resent that Misere who had so readily to sacrifice himself for people that doesn't love him.

Being a good looking boy in a family with good standing in society and a talented violinist does not help reinforce his idea that everyone wants something from others. In fact, he uses it to his advantage and has very little regard of other people.

In his heart though he still crave to believe in that people do love each other, he is just having a very hard time believing that feelings are genuine, and some people can truely be altruistic creatures.

One of the things I enjoyed about doing commission is trying out different styles.
I do really natural soft touch faceups, ... or so I like to say is my best work. XD

When working on faceups for customers "can you make this darker?" is a fairly common things customer say to me. And of course, they look much nicer when the colour is more pronounce.
Sometimes there is also ideas that I would never have thought of myself, trying it, and ended up loving it.

One of my favourite was doing a fantasy body blushing for Ostrich for her Monzo.

Honestly I probably wouldn't have think to do something like this normally. (and regret I didn't take a better picture to show the colour match XD)

Anyway.
I took these two tanned boys in from Eva for a more fantasy faceups. I did thought originally, man, can I do it? The original idea is either they will have "mask" like eyeshadows and/or face paint-ish looks. I just couldn't visualize it in my head so I had suggested another look. The idea was sound at the time but then I realize I went everywhere with that idea and ... it was.. . lost. I looked at the face and think, whoa, I really am not liking it. I don't want to show it to anyone.

The colours were wrong, the work ended up looking so smudgey. ... it had nothing nice that I usually do. Even the nice brushstrokes ended up looking all muddled. Too much was happening with that face nothing was standing out except chaos. :<

I was slightly bummed and well, asked for permission to start over.

And here is what I ended up with. :> I am much happier about this. There is a mere hint of green right in the middle of his lower eyelid. He has smiley lips, with some fauny spots and with less colour he looks more... focused. I had to reduce a lot of the elements that I wanted on his face but in the end, "Less is More" is really the way I have been doing things. I need to remember that and I think my work is best when it is less. I want to do all these other cool style but in the end ... just need to stay focused and do the best of what I do best. :>

Tomato was named by one of the ladies who first found her on the doorstep of The Greene House. Padmarascha means "lotus coloured" in the lady's native tongue, this lady(to be named!) took a great liking to baby Tomato and hence gave her a pretty name. Unfortunately when Tomato starts to grow hair the nickname "cute little Tomato" quickly spread and Padmarascha is a rather long name so the nickname actually stuck more than her real name.
Funny enough Tomato also has a green thumb so the nickname seems more fitting than ever.

In this world where Nephtic users are the norm Tomato is one of the minority that does not have a single hair of magical ability in them. She can't manipulate or perceive Nephs in any way, nor does it has an effect on her; she is considered a "True Soma". This is the reason why it took everyone by surprise when she was admitted into the xxx Academy. During a routine tour of the Greene House that he sponsors, Sir Dresden Leguesse briefly chatted with Tomato before sending in his offer for admission to school with a single thing in exchange: she is to work as a domestics in the academy's botanical garden.

Even though Tomato has no parents, the ladies in the Greene House treated her with love and she has learned to share that with other children and take care of others. She wants to do her best because this great opportunity but the new environment and role is very challenging even for her. Being a domestic while a student is not a role that other student sees as "normal", combined with her lack of Nephtic ability she was not looked upon kindly.

Minerva is the only child and really raised like a little Princess. She is beautiful, talented and have everything she has ever wanted. Of course, then it all come crashing down on her.
Her parents passed away in an accident, and the greedy relatives of the family have managed to seize control of Minerva's inheritance by adopting her. She spent a few years in the company of cousins she dislike and going to school that is not the least bit challenging for her. The motive is clear, her adoptive parents want her to just finish some basic schooling and marry her off.
Minerva is not satisfied with that, she is a proud girl and want more for herself. She managed to get a scholarship to the most prestigious school - details to come- and seek her growth there, away from these -average and short sighted relatives whose conversations alone will dull your mind.

In this new environment, she has learned to be more cautious with speaking her mind. She kept mostly to herself and seldom speaks her true mind. However, just because she kept quiet does not mean she will just tolerate whatever it is that is thrown at her.

Because of the way she grew up, Minerva tends to be a bit awkward in a casual social settings. She sucks at small talk and anything that is not a business-like conversation. She'll have to learn to relax and feeling that it is okay to just talk about the weather.

Pipos is releasing some new basic dolls. And so keep your eyes ON, yo!
This new bunny is kinda cute, but almost too cheerful for me. ... I like their gloomy emo little bunnies. ...
Though wait a minute, this is the basic version of last year's Alice in Nighmare Dark Bunny isn't it?!?! Then it's different because those are so delightfully creepy. :> They look like rats this way tho. >.>

It's been a known fact that I am in love with Zaolls for a bit more. I love both Luv and ~~Derp~~ Muse. Luv is just gorgeous whatever you put her in but this new LE tanned one is pretty epic. The outfit and headdresses and the tanned skin are nice. Not a huge fan of those feather lashes but they almost look appropriate. No complains there. Just too bad they are big dolls. ... and not quite big enough to get regular clothes. Though, through some random link clicking I found out there a small Luv exist... her body is a touch strange to me because she is very skinny on top and quite chub on the bottom, in comparison. But small Luv! :D They are 41cm tall :D That means I can buy them! :D Very pricey but physically possible! :D ... Okay. Well maybe if they make a small Derp then I'll get one and she'd say you all smell. :>

Speaking of derp. I rather like these new faceplates from Bishonen House.
Do you see a Naked Snake here because I can already see that with some stubbles and epic eyebrows you can have a pretty awesome Snake right there. Too bad they are ginormous - 27 inches - almost 70cm. That means you can poke someone's eye out with those nipples.
If only they were 27cm, you know?

Soom's new Teenie Gem MD - Taco and Dolomi.
Taco is blue and Dolomi is white. I rather like that blue. It is a very light blue that they just did on their snow faery mini gem. The outfits are really cute and I especially like the scarves, but I can't really get to like the fantasy parts. They are supposed to be little dragons, but their horns aren't very dragon like. Their feet look like fluffy version of the Grit and Syen gargoyle feet, ... the only thing that I do like are those tails... and they are lacking wings. I dunno. They are cute but lacking some overall creative points, in my mind. Plus, their dreaming heads are too similar to Ai/Afi. Again, cute, but didn't quite do it.

Which is fine for me. Because now I am just waiting for the perfect YoSD to show up. I don't need any more Soom tinies. :>

Way too cute. I love the wig! And the outfit is very adorable.
You get a sleeping Denis head and have the option to get an extra body if you purchase the set. (just like the Vanilla Baha/Ringo Pipos did earlier) If money is no issue I'd so want a Denis twin girls set. Denis is adorable as girls.
Well luckily money is issue and I don't like WS dolls. Whew.
The outfit is also available for separate purchase... I am loving this! Pricey at $148 but looks like the quality is really nice. I just have this thing with cute wintery outfits especially when it is cold outside. This would look adorable on Tomato... who really already have way too many outfits. >.>

I've given up for a while for SoulDoll's Tarot series to make any sort of sense.
Well they don't really. Not gargoyles for Hangman. But like the Ice Empress I will forgive them if the doll look cool enough.

Amon is gorgeous! Kyle is meh. I am a huge fan of anything with half closed eyes but this one just look.... constipated.
Too bad though, I love that expression with the ridges between the eyebrows but they only come on the gargoyle head and I HATE those ears. Just like with Monzo except these ears are even bigger! I guess they look fine painted up but there goes having a grumpy human Amon.
Oh. People are quite upset about them being Vito size because they definitely looked like they would be double or Zenith even.

If they were Zenith or Double they definitely would not be able to do this.

I am very impressed with the details on their legs, and jointed toes (claws?) And those wings look very nice. Battered and seen some action they have!
You know, Vito boys can almost make it into my collection because they are not that big, and they make excellent male companions to mini girls. ...
